Spotlight

Emily Connell shared this one with me. It’s a major casting site in the UK and while they don’t show any current breakdowns to non-members they claim to have cast Game of Thrones, House of Cards, and Black Mirror. Oddly they are showing stills from the US version of House of Cards rather than the British original. They want £220 for a year and a half membership which seems steep.

A friend who used to be on Spotlight tells me that she no longer subscribes because it was too expensive, and they starting offering unpaid jobs. While they claim to be the industry standard, she didn’t know anyone who had actually been cast in a film or television role through them.

Stage 32

This site wants to be a networking opportunity for actors. I opened an account when it first started but the constant requests to join random stranger’s networks so that they can advertise to me keeps me from putting any effort into it. Checking today, it looks like they have added a casting jobs page. The jobs for actors with 50 miles of L.A. all look odd or fishy and give me a real urge to run away rather than submit.

Star Now

This is a casting site that started in Sydney Australia where I went to acting school. At the time, it was the only online player in town. It was useful for student and lower budget indie films in Sydney. While they have a global presence, when I moved to L.A. there weren’t any local jobs on there so I unsubscribed. Checking the postings today, there is one project that fit my criteria shooting in LA – an unpaid student film consisting of 5 minutes of “mostly improv” for some London film students coming into town for 2 weeks.

Texas Actors

This seems to be a great resource for Texas actors. Lots of information and a place to post your profile. It doesn’t seem to be a place to find breakdowns or job postings. It seems to be a catalog of Texas based actors that can be search by Casting Directors, agents, or directors. Unfortunately, you can’t see any of their great resources without paying so I can’t vouch for it. This was recommended in the comments by “Atlanta Casting Director”.

Theatre Puget Sound

An actor friend, Michael Ochoa, lived in Seattle for a while and recommended this site for the Northwest area. He said ¨you basically become a member of their theater community and you have access to this site.  Seattle is mainly theater, but they post some commercial and film stuff here too.  As a member you also get to participate in their General Auditions for all the theater companies and casting directors.  But you do need at least 4 professional theater credits to be considered or else you get on a waiting list.  Anyway, you get to put up a profile and such, just like all the other ones.  Casting Frontier and Casting Networks (AKA LACasting) are also the mainstream submission sites that the agencies use.  But as a self submission site, Casting Frontier and Casting Networks never really had anything.¨

The Audition Connection

This is a casting agency. You have to be registered with an “approved” agency or manager but they don’t say what agencies or managers are approved. They claim to be “Voted #1 International Casting Website 2013 and 2014” but they don’t say by who or give any sort of reference. Their list of clients hints that they cast mostly in the Southeast, USA. No public profiles or even example profiles so it isn’t clear what you get for signing up.

The Southern Casting Call

TSSC has cast and crew postings for all of the South East USA. It doesn’t have a profile set up so all the casting calls include links or email addresses for actors to submit their information. It looks like it is free to post or see the casting calls. Thanks to Harley Shellhammer for this one.

Possible Scam Sites to be Avoided

These sites all appear to be scams. It looks like they scrape roles posted on Backstage and repost them as their own in order to get people to sign up for their services. If you believe the site is here in error, contact me and set me straight.
